Summary
I am offering software development services for small-scale projects. I have 10 years of experience in various programming languages, and a B.S. in Computer Science from the U.S. Air Force Academy. My most significant software project was a patent-pending teaching tool that earned a state-level education award and sold for $100K.
I currently serve full-time in the U.S. Air Force as a Communications Officer, but I am seeking part-time work on Elance, mostly because I miss programming!

When it comes to programming, I'm what you would call a "natural". I've been an avid computer hobbyist since I was 12 years old. At 13, I produced an HTML-driven project for the state-wide History Day contest, winning 1st Place in the Multimedia Category. That summer, I attended a college course in web design, which led to my first job as an intern programmer at the age of 14. This unique opportunity allowed me to broaden my expertise from a very young age. When my family moved to another state, I had built enough trust with my employer to allow me to continue working remotely as a telecommuter throughout my high school years.
High test scores and great remarks from my employer helped me earn an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, where I double-majored in Computer Science and Systems Engineering. Our senior capstone project was a situational awareness tool that interfaced UAV flight controls and live aerial footage with Google Earth.
During my limited free time as a cadet, I got involved with the FalconWorks non-profit organization, where I worked for 2 years as the lead developer of PointScribe. This patent-pending education tool demonstrated the use of Tablet PCs for teaching writing skills to children with learning disabilities, and won a state-level education award. A commercial company purchased the rights to our innovative software for $100K, fueling future community-driven projects at FalconWorks for years to come.
My career as a Communications Officer in the U.S. Air Force has given me some amazing opportunities. I was deployed on a 2-man team to design and stand up the radar data infrastructure for the premier air battle control center in Iraq. I also led a 20-man software development cell through the migration to an improved collaboration tool for $15M of software. My latest project was the establishment of a remotely-administered radar performance monitoring system for the Hawaii Region Air Operations Center.
The Air Force is great for me, but it's very rare that I get to do any real "hands-on" programming, which has always been my real passion! So, I'm trying to find some part-time work on Elance, not just to keep my skills sharp, but because I really enjoy it!
I live by the Air Force Core Values of Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do.
Note: The majority of my previous work is either proprietary or classified. My public portfolio will be quite thin until I get a few Elance projects under my belt!
