The Foodservice Database Company, Owner
This project consisted of creating windows-based software for querying data on foodservice operators across the United States to run on multiple operating systems. I used Visual Basic 6.0 for the user interface. Microsoft Access 2000 was used as the database. COM ActiveX DLL components were created to facilitate business and database functionality. Crystal Reports 8.0 was used to create the reports and mailing labels for the software. This application is internet enabled so that software updates can be downloaded automatically.
I designed data flow diagrams, algorithms, and an ERD to construct the application. I met with the owner of the company and talked with a few key customers to gathering the requirements. I also created object classes to facilitate the business and database functionality. All phases of the project were documented.
Daily business processes were also re-engineered to increase productivity. The previous database systems ran under DOS and needed to be converted to Windows. A custom Visual Basic front-end with SQL Server 2000 running on the back-end was created to conduct day-to-day business. Computer and network upgrades were essential for operations to succeed.
In addition, an e-commerce website was also created in Classic ASP, using SQL Server 2000 for as the database. The website also encapsulated an administrative back-end which allowed data entry people to update critical publishing data. COM ActiveX DLL components were created were used to create the business and database functionality. These objects were run in the environment of MTS. JavaScript was used on the client-side to validate the data so that round-trips to the server were saved. The website has both consumer and administrative interfaces for administering the website as well as updates to all publishing data.
A major upgrade is currently taking place to port the code from Visual Basic 6 to Visual Basic 2008 using Visual Studio 2008.
