I have worked with almost all virtualization technologies namely Vmware (Vmware server, ESX/ESXi, Workstation, Vmware infrastruture (VI3), Vsphere), Xen, KVM, OpenVZ, VirtualBox, VirtualIron and others. I have deployed several large scalable (auto-scaling), fully redundant (SLA 99.99999%) and loadbalanced setups. The setups had several services and application and each tier/service was highly-available and loadbalanced. I have developed many AMI’s on Amazon EC2 (most of them are for the clients and hence they are private AMI’s). On the Amazon I have used all the setups that it supports namely EC2, EBS, RDS, CloudFront, FBS, ELB, etc
I have deployed many internal clouds for hosting providers based on like Vmware VSphere, 3tera, Eucalyptus, Enonamlism, OpenNebula and OpenQRM. Also as noted above to achieve a SLA of 99.99999%, we created a hybrid cloud with backend/failover cloud. The failover cloud was either a cloned setup in a different datacenter or in conjunction with the public cloud like Amazon/Gogrid/Rackspace/Joyent
One of the massive deployments on Amazon EC2 for reference now runs over 318 instances with various tiers and application servers. It is programmed to auto-correct, auto-scale and be efficient both with cost as well as resource utilization. Today it supports over 2 million transactions per sec and handles a traffic over 3 GBps.
