Summary

As a crackerjack editor, it's my job to understand exactly and deeply what your writing is about, so that I can help make it everything you know it can be. Whether light or substantive, line- or copy-editing, whether you want your voice to be retained or developed, I will apply skills learned over the last 30 years in trade publishing (fiction and non-fiction), magazine editing, pharmaceutical advertising, television production, speech writing, and the generation of b-to-b marketing materials.

Recently I've been proofreading for a pharmaceutical re-branding project in 14 languages, editing Web sites for performing arts agencies, and suggesting revisions for scholarly articles and how-to manuscripts written by university professors. Editing fiction remains a true love and a constant source of happiness!

Employment

Selling Communications Inc.
1998-Present - Copy Editor / Proofreader / Publicist / Telemarketer / Jill-of-all-trades
I've worked as a consultant for Selling on in-house projects including their direct mail, sales letters, Web sites, e-newsletters, white papers, press releases and more; and I've also done the same for many of Selling's top brand-name clients. I've done p.r. and gotten publicity for their academic affiliate at Northwestern University -- the Forum for People Performance Management and Measurement. Telemarketing on behalf of their numerous B-to-B name-brand and Fortune 500 clients is also a skill I've honed at Selling.
Freelance
1996-Present - Editor/Copy-editor/Proofreader
Clients have included literary agents, budding novelists, e-book authors, university professors, self-help writers, Fortune 500 companies, as well as the local Village government and PTA. A recent long-term and part-time project for an international pharmaceutical firm required me to proofread in 14 languages.
Stuart Krichevsky Literary Agency
1996-1997 - Editorial Assistant
At a boutique agency then located in Westchester County, NY, I read/reported on manuscripts for acquisition. Liaison between clients, potential clients, and principal of agency.
Not-for-profit Years: US Fund for UNICEF
1987-1991 - Assistant to the President
I functioned as liaison between President and all internal departments, as well as the Board of Directors. Recruiting and working with celebrities to aid in the cause of publicizing the premier organization to aid children in developing countries included writing and editing articles, reports, press releases, talking points, and doing research for the President and celebrity representatives.
TV Years: Scripps-Howard and Lifetime
1984-1987 - Associate Producer for the MORNING EXCHANGE and REGIS PHILBIN
During the TV years I worked for the program director at WEWS-TV in Cleveland and as a producer on a two-hour daily live morning talk/news show, and then came to New York to work for Regis Philbin's nationally syndicated Lifetime show.
Book Years: Summit/Simon & Schuster and Classic
1977-1984 - Editorial Asst. / Editor / Manager / Regional Supervisor
From '77 to '84 were the Book Years. At the Summit imprint of Simon & Schuster I worked in Editorial, editing novels and non-fiction by wonderful people you've never heard of, and some you have, such as Hunter S. Thompson. Moving to Cleveland, I managed a Classic Bookshop and then became regional supervisor for the Canadian chain's 13 U.S. stores.

About Me

Profile Type: Individual
Number of Employees: 1
I'm an excellent writer and an even better editor. Applying the critical skills required to see deeply into a piece of writing, to understand what it will take to make your book/article/Web site/paper/copy the best piece of work it can be, and to either make changes or to suggest changes -- whatever you prefer -- is where I excel. My proofreading skills are unsurpassed... and I am the winner of our local spelling bee -- twice! (Some of the winning words: nidicolous -- which refers to baby birds that don't leave the nest in a hurry -- and embouchure, epergne, and omphaloskepsis.) Jobs are done with energy and enthusiasm, professionally, quickly, and to your specs, with satisfaction guaranteed.

Currently I'm also pursuing a Master's of Science in Teaching at Pace University, specializing in high school English. I continue to sharpen my research skills, and being affiliated with the University gives me wonderful access to various databases helpful in many kinds of research.

I've also worked as a television producer (and I have a local Emmy for one of the talk shows I worked on); a regional supervisor for a national bookstore chain; and I've been a colleague of Audrey Hepburn's, when she worked for UNICEF. Each one of my jobs has followed a single thread -- helping people to communicate, and understand, in the best way possible.

Payment Terms

Depending on your project, turnaround time can be as quickly as overnight, or over the weekend. Based on the length and complexity of your project, I will work with you to find a mutually satisfactory schedule for the progress of our work.
