I am Managing Principal of Cohawney Advisors LLC, a New York based consulting firm. I have 23 years of experience in M&A and leveraged, project and structured finance. Recent assignments at Cohawney Advisors include working for a Fortune 50 technology company on a multi-billion dollar potential acquisition - working for a well-known venture capital and buyout firm on a recently completed $12 million series B funding, including recommending post-acquisition process improvements being implemented - leading a cross-functional team to structure, win, close and syndicate the senior and subordinated debt financing for a $200 million acquisition.
Areas of expertise include operational, financial and management assessment, financial statement, trend and variance analysis, forecasting and modeling, due diligence, fund raising, lender and investor relations and negotiation, problem identification and solving, business plans, market and customer research, and risk assessment.
Prior to Cohawney advisors, I worked at several major financial institutions, including GE Capital for 8 years and National Westminster Bank for 11. During my career, I have been involved in well over 200 transactions ranging in size from $10 million to over $1 billion and have worked with many Private Equity acquirers. Transaction types have included leveraged acquisitions and build-up strategies, structured finance, including securitization of consumer and corporate loans and tax and accounting based structures, and project finance. My roles have included origination, capital markets, and credit and structural analysis. I have managed P&Ls and multi-billion dollar portfolios and have hired and trained successful teams in all aspects of lending, including financial and credit analysis.
I was invited to speak at two symposiums discussing financing conditions and documentation and intercreditor terms. I was also invited by a large accounting firm to speak at two gatherings of CFOs, educating them on financing structures and techniques and the current environment.
I earned a B.A. in Economics at Saint Lawrence University and an M.B.A. at the University of Wisconsin. I was fully credit trained at National Westminster Bank and was also selected for several international manager development courses. I have had extensive training at General Electric, including passing the Six Sigma blackbelt exam. Other training at General Electric includes the Change Acceleration Process, Compliance Leadership, and other general leadership training.
