Get Services: Manage the Work

Now that you’ve awarded the job to a provider, it’s time to manage the work.

Click on the “Manage” tab to view a list of your jobs.  The options on the left-hand side of the page enable you to filter your workrooms by job status.  You’ll see the “Quick Links” which enable you to make payments, leave feedback, and view status reports for your jobs in “Working” status.  The” Vital Statistics” information gives you a snapshot of your activity to date.

Click on the “Select Action” drop-down in order to see a list of possible actions to perform some of which include going to the job’s workroom, viewing the Private Messages, making payments and more.

Clicking on the name of the job will take you to the job’s workroom.  You will see the Message Board for your job. Here you can post messages, and if your provider is in the workroom at the same time you can have a realtime meeting with your provider on this page.

The Workroom provides you with everything you need to manage the work, including making payments, sharing files, communicating using the Message Board, managing the job Terms, and tracking the status of the job via Status Reports.

Once you are ready, you can click on the “Feedback” link to leave feedback for your provider.  You’ll see more options by expanding the “I want to” link.  These include hiring the same provider for a different job, the ability to leave Private comments for Elance about the provider, or the option to cancel the job.

As you get going on the project, it is crucial to set expectations for communication.  Use the Elance chat and call feature to stay in touch.  Be sure to keep all project communication on Elance by corresponding via Private Messages.

As part of the Elance Online Work System, your provider can submit weekly status reports updating you on the progress of the job. This is a great way to ensure the provider is on track with reaching your agreed-upon milestones and delivering results.

If there is a change in scope or schedule during the life cycle of the job, update the job terms to reflect the changes.  This will keep an official record and history for your reference.

Checking your “Inbox” regularly is a good way to keep updated with tasks associated with your workrooms.  You can filter these notifications by Private Messages, Payments, Jobs & Proposals, Terms, Invites, and Status Reports.  You will receive a copy of all Private Messages to your email address.  You can reply directly to this email and attach documents from your email client and a copy will be sent to both the PMB in your Workroom and to your provider.
