CEO ‘Tunes In’ to Elance for Global Help

Meet Bill Moore:  Founder and CEO of RadioTime, a Dallas-based small business that gives radiophiles a view into radio programming worldwide.  In fact, Bill describes RadioTime as a sort of international “TV Guide for the radio.”

RadioTime was born out of Bill’s personal passion for the radio.

He had always loved the radio, but found that many of the programs he enjoyed were on at “weird times”.  He started RadioTime to gather and organize radio content from radio stations around the world.  Currently, RadioTime organizes programming from more than 60,000 radio stations in 140 countries worldwide.

But as you can imagine, categorizing the world’s radio content isn’t an easy task, especially when you consider the myriad of languages and cultures that populate the world’s radio waves.  That’s why Bill uses Elance, so that he can access and work with Elancers located in markets all over the world.  Amongst other projects, Elancers help Bill gather radio programming, organize and publish it on the RadioTime website.

“The efficiency of being able to engage with suppliers makes it possible to pretty quickly identify those who are a great fit,” said Bill.  And given the global nature of the RadioTime business, access to worldwide talent is critical.  “I’m not sure RadioTime would have been possible without Elance,” said Bill.  “It’s such an efficient way to find the right fit for a supplier from such a wide market.”

Bill posted his first project on Elance in 2002, and has since developed long-term relationships with many Elance providers.

To find a provider that fits your business needs, Bill recommends starting with small, pilot projects.  “Spend a little bit of money to try more suppliers, and then you have better perspective on which providers are the best fit for you,” said Bill.

Hello Bill,
Your Radiotime site is awesome! I was able to find a national sports talk radio show that my local radio station dropped.
Are you thinking of somehow adding Sirius satellite radio shows?
I am also amazed at your idea to outsource the market research of finding radio content from around the world, then organizing it. Great job!

Excellent one!
