PROBLEM: Before I joined the company the General Ledger was never reconciled to the subsidiary ledgers, (Accounts Payable, Receivable and Inventory), the cash accounts were never reconciled to the bank statements and Sales Tax was never set up in the system. SOLUTION: I restructured the chart of accounts by creating cost centers, linking each product line to each revenue G/L Account by cost center and each cogs G/L Account by cost center. Reclassified and reconciled each G/L account by cost center to the subsidiary ledgers. Set-up sales tax codes by state and city linked to each county because we used multi state sales tax.
