“This job was posted on January 27th, and awarded to me on January 28th. The client posted a budget between $100 and $150. The job consisted of translating 10 packaging from English to French and Spanish. Hence, 20 translations. I bid $150, including Elance fees. Hence, I was paid $6.84 per translation of up to 300-400 words (some had repeated sections from previous texts) or so! I had not seen the texts I would be translating before bidding. I followed the client's budget. In addition, as I am very thorough, I provided, without any additional cost to the client, corrections to the original English texts that were submitted to me, and even explained why the corrections were needed. Given that my low bid fit within the client's pre-established budget, even including Elance fees that are attributed to clients according to Elance rules, and that I have provided him with extra work that he obviously needed and that thanked me for, the rating on cost is certainly a jaw-dropping one. The only conclusion I can come up with is an obvious lack of appreciation for my work and the work of a translator in general.
The rating on schedule is equally surprising and unjust. The client set the terms with 5 milestones. None of them were respected in terms of schedule due to the client failing to provide me with the texts to be translated. A week after awarded me the job, he wrote to me, "The designer I was working with on the next packaging project had to pass it ovve to another designer due to work overload, so it may take a little longer until I can get them to you. " From that point on, the packaging texts to be translated came to me without any respect of the milestones, sometimes after a month of not hearing from the client. The terms had an end date in February. The job was concluded in June, after I sent a message to the client, after a month of not hearing from him, asking him if he had the last text to be translated. Whenever I would hear from the client, I completed the translation of the texts within 24 hours, or in the most within 48 hours. Most of the texts were sent to me by the client very late in the evening, even on weekends, and I translated some as I received them late on Saturday evenings. I was told they were expected promptly in China. Given all of this, his rating on schedule and response seems to be a reflective one on himself.
Finally, a rating on professionalism that is not backed up by anything, given by somebody who needed to be reminded of funding milestones and ignored my messages in that regards, still sending messages asking for the completed work, two milestones in a row, is definitely questionable.
As I have the honour of having received the lowest rating this client has ever given, I thought the records should be set straight.
