“Talented, dedicated, smart, working long days (and nights when required), "can do" attitude, pleasure to work with... Need I say more? Part of me is worried that in being so positive, I'll get myself out of a "business partner"... But the main part of me is actually very happy that she gets all the work Oona is able to deliver the extra mile on! :)”
A client of mine needs to re-create graphic files for their web site from a high res pdf. The job is very simple :
a) look at bad res version files;
b) locate the exact match within the high res pdf;
c) make good quality screen shot of the matching data / tables;
d) match exactly the dimensions and layout of the low res in a) into a tool suc...

“Ok - simple : if you are looking for someone talking nice, sugar coating your discussions, promising everything and he sink for "tomorrow"... He's the right guy. If you are looking for someone professional, who's on the boal and will REALLY be helping you : turn your gaze as it won't happen! Contract started 1/11. Told him I needed a prototype to mimic the interactionf between 4 magento sites (ok - relatively complex set-up, BUT he's an Axure pro, right?) + overview of work flow URGENTLY as client was waiting. He agreed. He also agreed to spend 70h on the project over the whole project so as to ensure good quality... We are today 14/12... He's worked *14h* and has had, from day one, a good excuse NOT to be able to deliver (missing this / need that / etc...). So - in fine had to do his work : certainly won't be as good, am sure!!! BUT I'll have it. Same same for my devs... And I won't lose the client! :(
Long time since I didn't encounter on of these so called "pros" on Elance! These guys are the very reason why so many peeps stop using what is otherwise a great solution! A real shame - and I wish there was a mechanism to actually REMOVE THEM from the site!”
“Firstly, when you award the project with certain information and ask for a provider to go through a 80 page document set, they will take sometime to review. Based on the review, if you feel there is something missing and put in request, you expect the "so called complete information" to be coming your way.
The first two weeks client debated no of hours to be spent on project. He was aware of the fact that it was a complex site and it would need atleast 70 hours. It took him two weeks to realize the complexities.
Yes, I am a professional and Axure professional, and that is the reason other people on Elance have hired me and there are no of hours and milestones completed that vouch for this.
Again, Every time you requested some information, the client disappearing for 4-5 days on three occassions, delaying the project himself. When I buzzed him, he would say "Havent forgotten you, just working on other priority projects". Every week, there was an updated design that would make you wait for the revision. No details on links and functions and he expected me to pluck it out of thin air.
The client has been provided with a set of "Hi Fidelity prototype" with more no of pages then what he claims to have done himself. The draft was delivered to him 2 weeks back clearing up 95% of the designs he provided. When I requested him and asked him questions, he would come back with "Lets schedule an appointment and clear your questions". When the call was on he would drop the call and say he needs to go into another meeting and send me the questionnaire.
The whole issue arised when I submitted the timesheet for the week and the payment was not made. When I asked him to process payments and get the Work view ready for me to log hours, he started using words starting with "a" and "f" on skype chat. Talk about being professional.
Moral of the story: "If you are not willing to pay for work and provide timely feedback, just put in a negative feedback and walk off with a negative feedback for the freelancer.
Lastly, my profile has been built with on time deliveries and consistent work for clients who actually paid me on Elance and paid me well for the work done. That is the reason, Elance and freelancers are growing on year by year basis. Perhaps the client needs to check the market statistics.
You just have to be reasonable and put things in right perspective and treat your freelancers with dignity, you will get your work done with quality.
“Very unreasonable and unfair client. Expected a complete project with few hours to be put in. Debated on trivial issues that did not have existence. No feedback, no working knowledge of the project. First claimed the project was for in house developers and then said it is a demo for the client.
More than rude with his words and language. Pretty rough experience of working with him. ”
As my business is expending, I now need looking for a developper / project manager to help me manage my clients, their requirements and my team's deliverables (I am working with 2 development teams, 1 SEO one, 3 designers and several freelancers (traductions / adword campaigns / news letters / etc...).
