We have an Android application that takes pictures and submits the pictures to our backend server.
For taking pictures, the app launches the native camera app, user takes a picture and the picture gets stored in a file location on the device.
Since the pictures could be any size, we scale the picture down (using insamplesize of 4) to a certain size so that it is smaller and would be faster to upload. Now, for scaling the image, it has to load this picture in the memory. For some reason, when it loads the picture in the memory, it crashes because it runs out of the memory.
This app works fine on most of the phones except the new Samsung Galaxy S3 because it has a 24 bit depth image (I am assuming). All other phone cameras have a 16 bit depth image.
