I am looking for someone to provide me with their experience and views on using document databases in the real world.

I am a .NET developer, and I prefer vb.net. My own background includes lots of linux as well as php and other open source technologies.

I've been using SQL databases for years and I still find document database systems to be a little new. There are lots of contenders in the space now and I'm looking for some advice and your own list of best practices from systems you've developed on your own.

Please note: I am not looking for someone to use Google for me.

I am looking for a developer who has some experience specifically with MongoDB since that is the one I am leaning towards.

I am ideally looking for someone that has tried a few and can explain what the best practices are, what deployment issues I can expect, any problems with backup/restore etc.

Previous programming experience with an document DB that has a HTTP REST Api would likely be OK.
