This is just an exploratory posting to get an idea of what it would cost to convert an existing, fully working (hardware and software) platform that is mostly analog now, to an all-digital approach (as much as possible). The system generates a composite laser scan waveform (ramp + sine wave) that drives a diode laser, and reads the output of a detector/preamp. It pulls out the second harmonic (2f) signal via an analog demodulator and has phase adjustments, low pass filters for the outputs, etc. There is also a DC signal chain to measure laser power as the laser is swept in wavelength. We would like to convert the demodulator to a DSP/FPGA system where the phase and time constant are software controlled, and integrated with a digital laser scan waveform generator to achieve as much digital control as possible. Most important is the demodulator (lock in amplifier) section and the ability to phase the signals cleanly through the max. Base ramp period is typically 20 Hz down to 1 Hz, ...
