I am a developer who has written a windows client/server app which I hope to launch to my industry niche within the next few weeks. However my networking knowledge is virtually zero and I don't understand IP protocols, DHCP, DNS etc etc. and I haven't got time to learn.
A pre-beta version of my app is currently in use in my first customer's office. Their technical staff configured the network to give me my own partition on their dedicated widows server, which has a static IP address, and it runs just fine and is easy for me to administer via remote desktop. But this is a "non-standard" installation that I am personally administering and it has many security holes. I now need to decide how best to design a default standard installation which will be applicable as a starting point for most new customers.
