We are looking for an expert MySQL DBA to help us tune both our table, server, and queries to maximize performance of this mission-critical part of our application. Our troubles stem from a single table. It houses the main data for our application, has many millions of rows and is using the InnoDB storage engine on an m3.large AWS RDS Instance.
We are constantly collecting data from our real-time data sources. Whenever we receive new data for a location, we mark existing data in this table as being stale (e.g, UPDATE table SET stale = 1 WHERE location_id = 123). We then perform several thousand inserts to save the new data which has stale set to 0. When visitors use our application, we fetch this data out of this table and display to them the latest (SELECT * FROM table WHERE location_id = 123 and stale = 0). The reads from this table all function very well.
