I am a guitar teacher and player. I have developed a brilliant approach to getting to grips with the extraordinary complexity of improvising on the guitar. This approach has emerged as a result of realizing that the overwhelming majority of improvising guitarists "play with their fingers" whose "fingers lead the music". It is a "trial-and-error" approach where guitarists play visual patterns and licks with little or no understanding of what they are doing. This leads to the well-known "rut" in which so many guitarists find themselves, playing the same things over and over, unable to be really creative. The objective of my approach is to develop the knowledge, the ear and the cognitive skills needed to enable the improviser to lead the fingers to play ideas conceived in the brain and in the ear.
