On my website there are short pages with a very long sidebar. The main content ends but the sidebar keeps going, which pushes the footer down and extends the overall length of the page. It creates a huge annoying empty space. It annoys me because the lower content of the sidebar is not primary, it's very secondary.

So, I have a solution in mind, but I don't know how to implement it with jQuery and CSS. If you can help, it would be great. Here's what I envision:

Set the height of the sidebar container to the same height of the main content container using JavaScript. Set overflow to hidden. Then use a JavaScript scrolling technique like that which Facebook uses in their right side ticker. That is, when the cursor is close to the edge of the element, a thin scroll-bar fades into view so that you can grab it with the mouse and scroll.
