We use an ArcGis Online application to display KML sources. We use the default application provided by ArcGis online map viewer. No desktop app is involved. The ArcGis map application can be viewed here:

I want to keep the build-in Layers button open at all times, preferably with CSS2 only, but JS may be involved. Also want to position it. It's the element with widgetID=layerBtn. However, showing it requires setting the display of it's parent div to auto. this is the parent div to target:

CSS Issues:
setting it's display to "auto" in firebug has the desired effect of keeping the palette open. great! unfortunately, the div's ID changes everytime js opens it, so we cannot target it's ID. In the example above, it's "popup_43". Next...
