Hello, I'm looking for someone who can answer some legal questions regarding a local news blog that I'm about to run.
The questions have to do with Journalism:
1. If I hire a journalist to gather information from various sources (local news websites around my area, or from other internet research) in order to post a news story(blog) on our site, what do we have to do in order it for it to be legal?
-Do we have to link our site to other sites (whether blogs, news sites, or the organization's website) if that's where we got our information from? Even though it's not necessarily the same exact words, we basically summarized and wrote it in our own words?
-Do we have to summarize our content in our own words, or can we just use the same exact words that other local site has, as long as we provide source? If so, what does the source need to be, URL or just text information of where we obtained it?
2. Can we use pictures for our blogs without asking if we give them photo credit?
