We are a California Corp. being sued by loan sharks in NJ (they lent us money at usurious rates without a license and then sued us in NJ). We had a great and very expensive attorney who cost us over $20K then the judge let him quit less than a month from trial when we couldn't pay his bill.
So now we have a trial date set for August 9th and we need a new lawyer to come in, have the trial pushed back at least a month or two and hopefully negotiate a settlement.
The judge also ignored a motion to compel on discover so we need to have discover reopened because plaintiff got away with not answering discovery (and judge negligently forgot to rule on the motion).
If we end up at trial, this is a very simple defense - three main points to make and we are highly organized and our previous counsel had the case prepped and ready to go with all the issues well-researched, backed up and the usury rates properly calculated.
