We have a working application that has been developed for Ruby 1.8.7 we need ported to Mac OS X. For the most part it's platform independent code, but it does have several different features which will require OS X developer finesse.
First of all, it is an application that is based on our SAAS solution. Each time a user downloads the application the server needs to somehow silently add the API key for our service to the installer or application bundle. The server is running a Linux variant, so the solution you come up with would need to be available on that platform.
The ruby code is designed to run in the background with no UI. It essentially polls our server for a job, if one is available then it's executed. On our Windows platform we have it running as a scheduled task every 1 minute. A similar launchd based solution, or something similar would be in order.
