KSS has an interactive platform for patient health education. Imagine a simulated doctor that you could engage in meaningful dialogue about a variety of health topics. I am looking to build our next topic which will be a role play with our virtual doctor around the importance of hand washing. The doctor will explain (in video) how important hand washing is and then you as the user will engage in an interactive - choose your own adventure style - role play where you challenge the doctor on whether or not he has washed his hands before examining you. This is a simple but important example of the kinds of patient skills we seek to foster in our platform using this role play methodology. Other examples might be, dealing with your health insurance company, other important conversations with your doctor, dealing with family members with PTSD or Alzheimer's, etc. GREAT EXAMPLE of the mechanics (albeit silly): http://www.iamcal.com/games/choose/ Imagine each new text description of what happens in the above was the next step in a conversation with the doctor, or your mother with Alzheimers. Lots of paths and an opportunity for you to practice rarely used conversational skills. We are looking for one or two people with the following skills: - Excellent researcher - Excellent writer - Some game design experience (branching logic) - Some familiarity with basic health concepts - Good grasp of human communications and psychology This will be an ongoing project. The first project will consist of developing the initial role play which will have approximately 50 video scripts and some other interactive elements. MAJOR UPDATE: Hi Dr Langham, This is a simple action response game based on hand washing where the patient challenges the doctor on whether or not they have washed their hands before initiating physical contact - such as a Px exam. I think we can knock it out in a few day, in fact, I want to film it on Wednesday at 6pm so we HAVE to have it done by then. I would estimate your side of the work at 10 hours max. This initial one is a pure demo/prototype to show respective clients. Where I need the help of a trained psychologist is with creating the realistic patient/user questions and challenges and then physician responses. Its a lot like the game example I have at the bottom of my project description but there will usually be more than 2 choices for the patient. I want to incorporate humor without it becoming silly - we have to make it fun somehow or who will want to do it. Also, we plan to translate it into Spanish. An example of the openers might be: Doctor: Hi, I would like to take a listen to your lungs to check for phlegm or fluid there. Please unbutton your shirt. (Doctor raises the stethoscope and the camera pauses with it close to you) Do you: A) Unbutton my shirt and let him examine me. B) Ask him when is the last time he sterilized that thing C) Ask him when is the last time he washed his hands D) Ask him if he minds washing his hands first and sterilizing the stethoscope If A) The doctor proceeds to listen to your lungs and asks you to take deep breaths. You do so. Then he pronounces that your lungs sound clear. (Samantha - our narrator/avatar): You may have considered asking your doctor to sterilize his hands and the stethescope before he examined your lungs. It is possible to acquire an infection while in the hospital and some of these infections can be avoided though physician hand washing and sterilization of instruments. If B) Doctor: You don't need to worry about that. Now - more choices. You have to overcome the doctors objections and navigate the cause and effect consequences until you get to the right solution - which is either the doctor assuring you that he or she DID sterilize, or, pressing the issue and asking the doctor to do it again in front of you. perhaps the doctor offers to do it again but trucul
