I have a piece of PHP code (attached) which is part of a bigger app, an online canasta-like game for 2 players. I suspect this particular piece of code is underperforming because it uses filesystem to store and read the state of the game after each player turn, and I also suspect this is the culprit of the general slowdown the server experiences if there are more than 10 people playing at the same time.

I want to try migrating this piece of code to use memcache instead and I need help doing this.
