I am working on a high performance netflow collection project and need help with the backend MySQL database component. I'm looking for someone to assist me with schema design and program architecture. Because this project requires a lot of domain expertise beyond SQL I am not specifically looking for you to produce code (although that is nice and welcome when it makes sense). I'm looking for your advice and input in designing the underlying technology stack, database schema, and helping me to eliminate algorithmic bottlenecks in my code and approach.
Currently I have a netflow collector in Perl that takes flows and dumps them to a separate process it forks every 5 minutes on a Linux system. Perl is of course not the fastest way of doing the collection but for now it is giving me the flexibility I need to prototype on the fly. I'll rewrite the actual collector piece later.
