Hi all - I have a ColdFusion file that parses through a series of text files and adds the values into a SQL Server database. All works great on the CF side. However, there are times when the files are so large, that CF will time out. As a result, I'm looking to move this process over to PERL (the other language I'm comfortable supporting) so that I can fire and forget.
Currently, the CF process takes a zip file, and extracts. From there, it looks into a Definition file to figure out how the other files are structured. Then, it goes into each subsequent file (four others), and reads the file. Based on the structure indicated in the Definition file, it knows how many characters to pull off the file and where to split the string into separate values.
The files can be large (>100mb), and the amount of DB entries per file can also be large (>700k). All of this is working just fine in CF, so it's more of a task to translate into PERL. My perl skills are tolerable, but it would be ...
