I need a desktop application that allows the user to search Google Scholar, parse results, and store them in an SQL Lite database.
The search is conducted using a snowball sample. So the user enters a seed article, then the program stores all articles that cite the seed article, articles that cite the articles that cite the seed, etc (see the attached slides for clarification). The purpose of the program is to build a citation network - a visual representation of the structure of an academic literature.
I currently have a fully-function program in R, but Scholar frequently updates their search results page, resulting in the need to update the parsing functions. It is much easier to find Python programmers than R programmers for this task, so I would like to recreate the application in Python.
