I have a problem with some Centos servers running as VMs in VMWare.
These servers were installed with a 500 GB disk configured in VMWare with thin provisioning.
With this option, the disk file will increase in VMWare only when the actual space is consumed in the VM partition.
That happened with some servers, the disk space was used up to 500 GB, but now it is around 100 GB.
My problem is that these disks files in VMWare cannot be shrinked again to 100 GB.
There are several articles online teaching how to shrink these files in Windows and Linux (sdelete, dd, v2v, etc), but I wasn't able to complete the task with them.
My servers' partitions are configured with LVM, and it looks that is the problem with the shrink process.
There is a commercial tool to address this problem (Quest) but it wont work in LVM systems. Also Centos is not in the compatibility list.
What I need is a "recipe" on how to shrink a Centos VM disk in this condition.
