We have a successful eCommerce system built on the platform of Windows Server 2003, SQL Server 2008, C# ASP.NET web forms.
The database has the correct entities for our business but we believe that its design could become a limiting factor in our growth:
The problems are:
use of GUID data type for nearly all index fields
excessive number of intermediate tables between entities
Our web forms and server processes access the data via T-SQL stored procedures, and what we want is to improve the database in such a way that our web pages and server components will work transparently with the re-engineered database.
Your task is therefore:
Study our database
Suggest a plan and design to re-engineer the database in such a way that we do not have to make software changes i.e. we do not want to disrupt our eCommerce activities
Migrate data from the legacy database into your re-engineered one
Provide scripts to migrate and install the new database on our database servers
