We need a new component that has a browse button and an input field where we can import a CSV file. The CSV file will have two columns ... "Order ID" and "Tracking Number".
Once imported, this CSV will input the tracking numbers into the Comment section of the Order Status Change tab on the appropriate order and toggle the order to 'Shipped". This should automatically trigger the Status Update email with the tracking number as the comment.
Two small bits of customization ...
1. Our Internal order ID's will have a prefix. So in Virtuemart, the order ID's will be 00000762, 00000763, 00000764, etc. But the import will have QTF762, QTF763, QTF764, etc. We'll need QTF762 to match up with 00000762, etc.
2. We would like "Your tracking number:" to appear in the comments section before the tracking number. This way each customer email will say "Your tracking number: 1Z098796G9879G", etc.
