My parents are in their 80s now and, though very sharp, need someone with more energy to pay their bills, maintain/monitor bank balance, create them a budget, help keep them on budget by reviewing statements, and communicate with them about their spending habits and make recommendations of where they can possibly cut costs, etc. I will also interact with this person to make sure things are being done right and to audit the work from time to time. This person will also help with things like making sure they have the right insurance (do they need more? Could theirs be with a cheaper provider) and other financial planning devices, to the extent those skills are developed.

I have a portfolio of forward contracts for commodities, in which I commit to purchase fixed quantities at fixed prices over a defined term of 1 to 10 years. The contracts are not options, and I physically settle the contracts, so I account for them under normal purchase and sale accounting.
