I run a small women's clothing boutique. I have a year-end cash-flow document with all sales, stock costs and categorised expenses recorded. From this I have created a balance sheet and profit and loss account sheet to submit to Companies House under the micro-entity clause for my yearly accounts and also corporation tax (nil to pay). We're looking for an accountant with experience working with ecommerce stores to help us get setup on xero. We've got the tech side done with Paypal/Stripe feeds and integration with Shopify (our shopping cart) which will automatically import invoices etc. So all the data is coming into Xero fine. I run a wedding officiating business and have for the past 10 years contracted with my part time "staff". However, my attorney advises me that in the state where I'm based (Colorado) the Dept of Labor would consider my relationship with these folks to be more "employee" than contractors. I don't have a clue about where to start to attempt this conversion and I have no idea about the general legal logistics of having employees versus contractors. All I've done so far is email for Workman's Comp quotes. And to top it all off, my business covers three states.
