I have a UK Trust. My UK trustees and trust lawyers all say it is a grantor trust, under UK law. In fact, this is their statement "a trust is considered to be a grantor trust if the grantor (includes any person that creates a trust) has a reversionary interest of the trust assets. On the basis you are the settlor and a discretionary beneficiary of the Trust, it is my understanding that the Trust would be considered a grantor trust in the US." My US tax accountants are wondering if the trust is considered under US trust law as a grantor trust, particularly in the eyes of the IRS. They want a USA lawyers opinion. So I need a trust lawyer that knows about USA and UK trusts to read my trust document and tell me if it is considered a grantor trust in the eyes of a US Trust lawyer. I have the UK Trust document in hand (it is 1 document), and it looks pretty simple. 99% boilerplate document, with fill in the blank names. My guess is this is an easy and fast job for someone t...

Hi My father-in-law has passed on this morning. My husband told me about the past of his dad and that he thinks that his dad was holding a grudge against his family also because he hasn't inherited anything although they seamed to be wealthy. My father-in-law has lived in Switzerland but was born in Malaysia. I thought it is my duty to check if the Malaysian family of my father-in-law owes him money or now, since he has passed away , owes money to his son. We are living in Europe and we do not know anything about the Malaysian succession right if there are any limitation periods or whatsoever. We are grateful for any help.
