Several years ago there was a text input method for PocketPC called Quickwriting. Rather than pecking at a keyboard or using the Palm-style "graffiti" symbols, this method allowed the user to keep his finger on the screen, moving from one area to another to select and enter each character. The letters are arranged in a starburst layout with 8 sectors around a central area (Center), with each sector containing 5 sub-sectors. To select a character, the user holds their finger down in the Center, then slides toward the appropriate sector, slides to the appropriate sub-sector, then slides their finger back to the Center. Once the move is made from the sub-sector to the Center, the character is entered. An apk with source code is currently available for a predetermined layout of letters.
