Hello ... involved in a project that involves having to reverse engineer a product housing for a proof-of-concept demonstrator. The product on which we're basing our prototype is of a clam shell design (plastic housing), the top half of which we're looking to have 3D-scanned to an OBJ, STL or PLY file. We expect this raw 3D scan file to exceed 50Mb. A few approaches under consideration are ... 1) Having the native 3D file converted to a workable IGES (or other) model file, which will allow us to make changes in-house; e.g., to grow this top-case in one or more dimensions. The tool currently on hand is TurboCAD Pro Platinum v18, and not a higher-end SolidWorks or Pro/e type package. This is potentially a bottleneck in our process. 2) Our second approach would be to collaborate with another consultant and have the raw 3D scan data converted to a workable model file, and modified per our requirements.
