Aim The aim of the work is to identify modes of vibration of a component and the associated natural frequencies by different techniques and compare the values. 1. Finite element analysis Prepare a finite element model of the component and extract the first six modes of vibration and associated natural frequencies. You are recommended to use the finite element analysis software, ANSYS to undertake your analysis.You will need to measure the component to obtain its dimensions you will also need to find out what material it is made of. Provide a rationale for your model commenting on your assumptions and choice of constraints, elements, nodes, etc. Comment on each of the mode shapes. 2. Hand Calculations Carry out appropriate hand calculations to estimate the first few modes to confirm your finite element analysis results are sensible.
