We are prototyping a meat and poultry product safety detection chip. This chip can be a RFID or any other type of chip that will detect if the meat product has been kept at a certain desired temperature throughout the journey of the meat until it reaches the retail store. When consumers buy food products, it is common for the consumer to read the food expiry date and make a decision to buy or not to buy. Food safety laws require that certain foods not be sold if their shelf life has expired. The concept here is to develop a chip, sticker that will be placed either outside the food package or inside the food package to monitor the temperature. The sticker/chip could change color from white to red to indicate to the consumer that the meat, at sometime in its journey was not maintained in temperature conditions required for food safety.
