I am looking for someone to provide me with their experience and views on using document databases in the real world. I am a .NET developer, and I prefer My own background includes lots of linux as well as php and other open source technologies. I've been using SQL databases for years and I still find document database systems to be a little new. There are lots of contenders in the space now and I'm looking for some advice and your own list of best practices from systems you've developed on your own. Please note: I am not looking for someone to use Google for me. I am looking for a developer who has some experience specifically with MongoDB since that is the one I am leaning towards. I am ideally looking for someone that has tried a few and can explain what the best practices are, what deployment issues I can expect, any problems with backup/restore etc. Previous programming experience with an document DB that has a HTTP REST Api would likely be OK. The purpose of this website is to upload and display my entire product catalog to my dealer network. Dealer's need to log in to their own account which will allow them to access the entire catalog with their specific pricing information (a certain percentage mark-down from retail). My product catalog has several hundred items, each of which is customizable with a maximum of 7 categories of items. Each of these categories has multiple items to choose from. After a dealer has logged in, they need to be able to add these items with their specific features to the shopping cart. After they checkout, to complete the sale the website needs to generate a dealer specific Purchase Order. Each dealer needs their own purchase order template, and every time they create a purchase order, they must enter a purchase order number and each purchase order must have the current date on it.
