I am a model maker and I need a working 2D design, based on simple linkages that re-creates the action of an elephant's legs when walking. The main body is static and the head will be dealt with separately. The model is not required to walk but a realistic motion is very important. This is for someone with ingenious skills (perhaps from an animatronic/mechatronic/toy design background) that can use a mechanical linkage programme (Working Model etc. ) to generate the necessary linkages and levers. I don't want a design based on slideways, cams etc. only points of rotation. Each leg should be able to be driven by a rotary motion (separately if necessary) perhaps in the manner of Theo Jansen's well known mechanism. I will provide a drawing that gives the necessary shape constraints, extreme and intermediate positions (from Muybridges photographs). I don't need any consideration to be made for materials, bearings etc....simply the mechanisms with dimensions. I have not put any budget/times...

A bicycle manufacturing company has identified a market opportunity for a high quality, low weight bicycle suitable for use by children aged between 6 and 8 years old. The target market is considered to be in the region of 25,000 parts per year and the companies usual product life cycle is 8 to 10 years. The Engineering Design department has been tasked with investigating the redesign of four, key components using alternative, polymer based, materials. This coursework will be used to assess competency in two key areas. You will receive two separate grades for your work, one for the Computer Aided Design and development content and the other for the material and manufacturing process (and related design considerations) section. The two grades will contribute towards the coursework elements of assessment for Computer Aided Design & Manufacture and Materials and Manufacturing Technology respectively. One of the components illustrated below will be issued to you. Students are requi...

I am inventing a piece of gym equipment to exercise lower abs. It is an ab mat you can place and secure onto a work out bench (benefit will be to allow user to extend lower abs beyond 180 degrees improving the workout). If you are not familiar what an ab mat is, I enclosed 3 photos of an ab mat. I would want the dimensions to be 38 cm length x 50 cm width x 10 cm height. The trick is how to secure it to bench (it can't move side to side and the sides can't move up and down). Workout benches have a metal rod that runs down the bottom of the bench (see enclosed photos - esp portion circled in red in second enclosed photo of bench). So the question is how the ab mat could bind to the bench and remain secure? I am thinking so some type of screw system? Job will work like this: first step will be coming up with 3 potential solutions to securing this equipment to a workout bench. If one of those solutions works then the second step will be to design a simple CAD of the whole product. The...

A high voltage tether of known materials (copper, fiber, insulator, strength member, polyester jacket) and known voltage (2kv) and current (~1 amp) is to be wound on a drum of known material (carbon fiber) and subjected to high temperatures (130F) in direct sunlight. The tether will have multiple wraps around the drum. Perform thermal analysis estimate to show approximately what size drum (diameter and width) is needed for the system to tend to thermal equilibrium with the power conductor below a specified temperature along with estimates of temperatures of other components in the system. Assumptions and safety factors can be used in order to reduce cost and working time. Thermal analysis of future system components may be required if freelancer is able.

We have a prototype (a physical product done) of frame made out of aluminum square tubing and L-shapes, and screws. Relatively simple one, almost resembling the legs and the connecting bars for a small coffee table (that is not the product, just to give impression of the complexity). Again, just to give you an impression of the complexity: we drew a sketch, did some calculations and measurements, bought some 3/4" square tubing, cut it with manual hacksaw, drilled wholes with a manual drill, assembled it with metal sheet screws. We want to sell this product. So we need someone to help us order this from a metalworking shop or small factory. So we need drawings, and some knowledge (detailed scripted procedure on getting materials, ordering from machine working shop the cutting and the drilling, getting maybe a few shops to bid etc.) This is pretty much a know-how project more than anything else. A mechanical engineer especially with experience in turning an idea / sketch / pro...
