I'm looking for a solution to what seems a relatively simple problem - I have an application running on a particular machine and I want to be able to access it automatically without knowing the IP address or port. The majority of the time it will be within a single LAN and the server broadcasting will be Windows but clients could be anything. I'm looking for a standalone program that won't require editing DNS records. From what I know, I think that zeroconf/mDNS/Bonjour should fit the job nicely but if you have a better solution then that is fine. I'd like the final solution to be a simple executable that can be installed as a Windows service and is managed by a key/value configuration file - RendezvousProxy seems like it's what I'm looking for except that it's not a service nor has a simple config file. I'd also like something that could work across multiple subnets in a corporate network, but because there could be a large variety of different network types and firewall settings this...

I have a PHP application that needs to be installed on a range of Windows servers. Each installation may be slightly different and I need an installation procedure document created that highlights the best practices for the installation. The document is not a step by step manual, but will need to cover the main points and allow for different scenarios. I have a custom query web page that users enter in their specific criteria on. It then filters out their request from a SQL table and populates a google map with the point data on it. On that google map, they have 4 tabs on top that gives the user options to export the data in (excel, shp, kml, gpx). See attached screenshot. I want to add one more tab that says GIS. This tab will switch out the existing google map and will replace it with a silverlight map viewer instead. The parameters from the custom query will need to be passed to this silverlight map so that the map zooms to those points from the initial extent. I will have a custom template for the silverlight map viewer configured with a specific toolbar enabled. Users can access some of these simple tools inside the silverlight map viewer like measuring, printing, etc.

I have a fundraising Company that gives Schools books on consignment. We are a small family owned business. We go on-site to our customers and service laboratory equipment. Most customers have us perform preventative maintenance on an annual or semi-annual basis. We currently hand write our work reports, and they are file individually for each service date. I would like to have an inventory of each piece of equipment at each customer, with a record of when each piece of equipment was serviced with any notes applicable to that service date.
