Hi My company currently owns a operates a chicken hatchery. We buy hatchable broiler eggs and sell the Day Old Chicks (DOCs) to farmers. The market is very volatile and prices range from NGN70 in the low season to as high as N250 in the high season. This means that sometimes, we are not willing to sell our DOCs as the price is too unfavourable. As a result, we keep them in pens and raise them to be slaughtered and sold to consumers. We occassionally sell live chickens also. We recently acquired 5000 breeders, so we can lay our own eggs and eliminate dependence on the farms who sell the hatchable eggs to us.
