I recently moved my website from shared hosting to VPS and now want to optimize its settings/configuration to ensure maximum performance of the website. At the moment, the site is running on Apache (we enabled and then disabled Nginx as it proved to be more of liability at low traffic: ~200-250 visitors/day). Criteria for successful completion of this task is improving average page loading speeds in North America by at least 30%. In addition I need these tasks to be performed: - ensure that IPtables are reloaded at server restart (I use IPtables to block certain IP ranges and every time I restart the server I loose my changes. - apply settings to block spam bots and referrers directly in the Apache configuration files (such as virtual hosts). To apply to this job you need to have extensive experience with Ubuntu, knowledge of Plesk panel, and to speak fluent English or Russian (I want to understand/monitor every single step you are doing, so I need you to be fluent in one of my la...

I have a website that is hosted on Rackspace Cloud. It is a custom php CMS. Rackspace says that the site has been compromised. Their comments are below: Your server does appear to be compromised and making outbound DNS requests to our DNS servers on port 53. While this would normally be ok, it seems that the amount of traffic is high which has potential to get your server blocked from our DNS resolvers. You can add this line (iptables -A OUTPUT -o eth0 --dport 53 -j DROP) to your iptables firewall rules to prevent this but, it will cause you to be unable to request DNS unless you remove it or turn off your firewall (not recommended). The client went ahead and added this line to the iptables as a temporary fix but it is just a bandaid fix and is causing the site to not be able to send emails. I need this job completed within 48 hours.

I've a VPS (Debian) with 1 NIC and a static public IP. I use this as a web server but want to extend this to run an OpenVPN server operating just like StrongVPN. That is, I need the single OpenVPN client attached (an OpenWRT router) to be able to 'use' the public IP for clients attached, effectively bypassing CGNAT in a transparent manner. I have this currently working with a StrongVPN account, but would like it running on my own VPS. What I need is an iptables script to correctly forward traffic up / down the tunnel to the VPN endpoint, whilst keeping the server running as 'normal' (access via port 22, web over port 80 etc etc). I have the starting point (a working iptables-save output) which needs extended with suitable iptables commands. For someone who knows what they're doing this shouldn't take longer than a few minutes, but it's taken me days of trying to understand iptables!

We need a highly available firewall software/service that checks first 75 bytes of each message (layer7), logs it and only if certain string pattern matching criteria is met, forwards the remainder of the packet (bytes 76 and onwards) to its intended destination IP address. l7-filter seems like a good match, the service will run on ubuntu 14.04.

We currently have a stock Centos 7 server and we want to install Elasticsearch on it, in a secure manner. This server will only be used for Elasticsearch (no Apache or anything). If you're not familiar with Elasticsearch don't worry, you don't have to actually configure it or anything, just to install it (documentation is easy to find). I'd like someone to do the following: - Install Elasticsearch - Restrict Elasticsearch and SSH access to a set of IPs - Secure the server (install iptables, fail2ban, and/or anything you think is necessary, as well as changing SSH's port). Thanks for applying! :)

We have a basic configuration, but need your help to adapt it to EdgeOS and add proper routing/iptables rules so that all traffic originating from the LAN interface exits over the tunnel interface and masqueraded. I've installed openvpn and created the certificates but when i try to connect using my client on my personal pc, i get a connection failed error. I need you to check the setting and make sure everything runs smooth. Also need you to explain where i went wrong. I think the issue is coming from the iptables configuration. The server is running CentOS 5. If everything goes smooth i'd like to keep working with you with regards to any linux work in the future. Please don't submit unrealistic proposals..

This out of date document explains setting up parental controls on Ubuntu 14.10   [obscured]  /linux/web-content-filtering-made-easy/ I need to have a script or set of scripts I can run as 'root' to perform these tasks on a stock standard 14.10 Desktop installation of Ubuntu. Essentially I want to have a set of scripts that will set up Ubuntu 14.10 as follows: 1. Install Dan's Guardian, Privoxy, IPTables as well as Gnome-system-tools (to get advanced user settings back) 2. configure DG, Privoxy and IPTables 3. set up as services that will run on reboot It is very important that a specific user (configurable in the script(s)) is able to be set up to bypass the IPTables restrictions so that the computer can be used/updated by a system admin yet it is protecting accounts of the kids on the machine. I would also like to have the DG installation use a scheduled update from Shalla List using CRON if at all possible.

I need to use the WANem 3.0 CD I burned on a ASUS desktop PC as a router with two Ethernet NICS. The WANem router would be placed between a currently functioning Windows 2008 server hosting a custom UDP protocol server facing the Internet through a business class Linksys Router with a port forwarded from a static IP. I need instructions on setting the WANem Eth0 and Eth1 ports on the two lan segments, each with a hardware switch, as well as the Windows 2008 server ethernet adapter settings. The Windows server normally sits on the internal network with fixed IP of 192.168.2.40 and UDP port 2914 is open to the internet through the NATing Linksys router through port forwarding. The windows server also needs to be able to reach the Internet normally for web and other requests. I need to test mobile devices connecting in through cellular links and from another WiFi network on a separate external IP address to this server. The goal is to create delays, out of order and dropped packets ...

I am looking for a Linux admin who can do a small project in setting up my new Debian 7 server correctly. I already did the basic LAMP setup, but need additional things configured and I just don't have the time to learn it. 1. Enable logging for MYSQL - 2. Configure MYSQL for production performance 3. Increase memory limits and var input limits in PHP. Configure PHP for production performance. 4. Setup & test outgoing email to have correct authentications based on the domain being sent from. Do not need any local mail, so something like Sendmail should work fine, if configured correctly. - must test with a gmail account and ensure emails do not go to spam. - This server has never been used before. 5. Firewall - Setup iptables and any other necessary functions to secure server, ports 80, 443, 22 only. 6. Any other configurations necessary to high performance and security. Linux containers will be created using a slightly modified version of this program:   [obscured]  /arachsys/containers. The only modifications we have done are to remove things that we don't need, so what we have is a bit smaller than this program. Unfortunately whereas the program above works, it does not handle networking. This means that I've had to create a separate Shell script to handle the networking. The networking involves creating two ends of a virtual ethernet device. One end is pushed into the container's namespace and becomes the interface that all traffic is routed through (this part seems to work fine). The other end stays in the VM and some iptables rules are created to forward incoming traffic on most ports into this, and to allow the container to communicate with the Internet through it (these parts don't seem to work properly). So I need someone to look at what I've got and think about whether iptables rules are the best way to handle this (I think it can also...

We operate a root server in a German computer center (Hetzner online AG). The base-operating system is Debian 7. On top of this, we run Proxmox. The set-up is Proxmox KVM/Bridged with one/29s IPv4 sub-net. A simple IP Tables firewall protects the Proxmox host against access from the outside. A virtual pfSense firewall manages the traffic TO and FROM all virtual machines. The current configuration works for IPv4 as desired. What we now whant to add is IPv6 support for the pfSense firewall as well as the irtual machines. If you get selected, you will at first get all relevant information about the concrete set-up (ip-adresses, subnet IPv4, subnet IPv6, ip-tables firewall, ..) After that, i will request a few minutes of your time, at best on the phone (skype etc.) to talk about an ideal IPv6 set-up. We decide together what will be the best approach and you will then deliver concrete configurations steps etc. which will solve the problem. If necessary, you will assist in case of prob...
