INTRO We have 170 STL files which are 3D models of human bones. We need to simplify them by applying "retopology" method (in ZBrush), in order to reduce the file size for the final software product. In the previous project "Simplify mesh while preserving the sharp edges" we tested just one STL and established that processing a single file takes about 5 minutes. That means, processing 170 STL files can take about 14 hours of work. TOOLS AND METHODS You can check the process in the attached video (mp4). The tools used are: MeshLab, Modo, ZBrush. It is important to preserve sharp edges of the cut surfaces. To achieve this, you will have to group them ("Auto Groups With UV") before applying retopology (see the video). RESULTING FILE SIZES All the models are of long bones (of hands and feet), no complex bones are involved.
