I am a Puerto Rican woman who has been married for 58 years having had two children while being a teenager. Today my son is a doctor specialized in industrial medicine and my daughter is a Radiologist. While raising my children I worked simultaneously and achieved an Associate Degree and later a BA in Education with a minor in Psychology; a BA in Social Welfare with a concentration in Community Organization for Problem Solving; and a Master Degree in Social Work with a specialization in Agency Administration and Supervision.
As a teacher, I began in elementary education and rose to a university professor in graduate programs.
As a social worker, I have worked with dysfunctional families, children, elders, school drop-outs, groups, and communities.
As an agency administrator, I have been in charge of the most important private agency in Puerto Rico (The Celia and Harris Bunker Institute) working with every kind of family problem imaginable.
My most important job experience was my position as Head of Family and Children Services for the Puerto Rican government and as Special Assistant for the Secretary of Family Services. As part of my duties, I traveled out of the country representing the Governor of Puerto Rico, the Secretary of Family Services, and the First Lady in professional meetings with Federal Agency Directors.
