I am a Bioinformatician by training (Master of Bioinformatics). I am well acquainted with the nature of the biological data and most of the statistical and data mining techniques used to analyze it. I have a thorough understanding of basic alignment algorithms like Needleman –Wunsch and Smith - Watermen (successfully attempted to code these algorithms in C). I have well studied most of the important high-throughput database searching algorithms like BLAST, psi-BLAST, FASTA. I have a very good grasp of sequence alignment concepts like dynamic programming, substitution matrices (PAM, BLOSUM), local and global alignment etc. I am well versed with many concepts in structural biology like basic elements of protein structure, characteristics of protein surfaces, conformational energy calculations in proteins, thermodynamics of protein folding etc. I have well studied many of the well known biological databases like NCBI NUCEOTIDE, NCBI GENE, NCBI SNP, NCBI SRA, Protein Data Bank, UniprotKB; the type and range of information they store and their information retrieval systems (Entrez, NCBI eutils, SRS).
