Everyone has to start somewhere.
I got started late with the profession of English writing. While I did write for my college newspaper while at the University of Pittsburgh, I did not gain enough experience to make me a candidate for a "real" newspaper job after graduation. A few years later--through a former editor--I was given the job of a "stringer", a part-time reporter that covers local news events--like town council and school board meetings--for a local community section of the area's large daily newspaper.
Then, for many years, I traveled in the course of my various sales jobs...I still was writing, but it was mostly for my own personal enjoyment. I had several ideas for fiction works that I started and worked on from time to time.
Recently I started writing online articles for a website/online publication that features not only national but local coverage of events, places, and other things of both general and specialized interests. While it's freelance work, it is my goal to publish two or three such articles a week.
My reporting covers Apple's iPad--news, features, how-tos, advice, its many uses, and so on. Recently I was featured this site's national Facebook page for an article on utilizing the iPad to improve one's golf game.
