“If shoddy work followed by abusive, threatening emails and an extortion attempt are what you're looking for, then hire "Ind Animation." Given his high marks in the past, I was surprised that I had such a terrible experience with him.
I gave him QT files of 10 still images to animate, including the framing and timing for each, along with detailed written instructions. He botched all 10 of them! Jerky movement. Bad framing. Timing off. He clearly never followed my instructions at all.
Plus he added a huge logo of IND ANIMATION to all his work, so it was difficult to see what the animation looked like.
When I asked him for revisions, he refused, and that's when the nasty, threatening emails started.
He asked me to pay him for his work as is, without any revisions. I told him I wasn't going to pay him until he revised them. He threatened to file a complaint with Elance. At that point, I stopped communicating with him, and didn't release the funds. I contacted Elance but since I had already hired him, I had no recourse to stop the work.
As an aside, and I feel terrible for saying this, but his lack of English skills only made matters worse.
I contacted him again to ask that he send me the AE and Photoshop files he worked on (they was part of the deliverables as specified in his contract with me). He told me he would send them to me as soon as I paid him.
So I paid him. What a fool I was! Then comes another email from him -- an attempt to extort more money from me.
He told me I had to pay him another $50 before he would send me the AE and Photoshop files.
What nerve, I almost have to congratulate him on this!
Needless to say, I won't pay him. And despite all the good reviews for him, I'd urge caution before hiring. There are far better animators out there.
Amidst all of this, IND ANIMATION googled my name, and found me on Facebook. He sent me a friend request!!!
How odd...and very creepy. My advice: stay away. Stay far away.
