I've been a freelance writer for 7 years, during which time I've written copy, stories and features for a wide array of demographics. Service Description

I approach the writing of copy and features in a structured process that I've developed over 7 years of regular freelance work. It helps first to develop the narrative thread for a project, i.e. the crux of what my client is trying to convey. Some clients have a clear idea of what this is; for those who don't, know it's important to nut out precisely what needs to be achieved. I do this either by email or by phone. I find it useful to summarise each project in one sentence if possible. I can then structure the copy/feature around this premise and work from there.

It also helps to use language that flows with phonetic finesse.

In an age where we are bombarded by endless information and are seemingly evolving with ever-decreasing attention spans, it's crucial to wrangle the readers' attention from the get-go. Keeping the readers' attention is key, and to do this I use a lattice-like system, the aim of which is to link in seemingly disparate points to the main premise. If a reader is surprised occasionally, and if a reader is wondering where the text is going next, then you have their attention. If you can open up somebody's mind to look at a subject in ways they hadn't considered before, then there's more chance they'll remember what you've written.

An example of this in practice was when I teamed up National Parks NSW (Australia) to promote a newly-opened walking track. The brief was to write an engaging first-person account of the track. I had 2,500 words. Just...
