“I'd just like to add a few words regarding this job. The client was lovely, and very nice to do business with - this in no way is a criticism of her. However, I would like to clarify a couple of things, given that my star rating is lower than I would like.
The first point applies generally to proofreading and copy-editing on this site: sometimes, clients seem to expect that you should be a 'subject matter expert' in their particular field. As a proofreader, there is no way you can possibly be an expert in every subject you proofread material for - only a human encyclopaedia could achieve that! The rating for 'Expertise', therefore, should relate only to your knowledge and skill as a proofreader. In this particular case, I think I have been marked down on 'Expertise' and also 'Professionalism' because I do not specialise in CVs - but I was careful to make this point clearly before beginning work. I also spent 2 hours researching how to present a 'perfect CV' (time I did not charge for) before starting the project. The work on the email I did as an 'added extra', a 'favour' to the client, and did not charge for this.
I gave this job 100%, as I do every job I take on, both on and off this site. I am presenting my response to the star rating in the hope that it will mitigate any possible negative impressions.”
