For six years, I have worked in the non-profit sector in communications, marketing, and fundraising. In these deadline-driven environments, I have consistently produced quality communications in the unique "voice" of each organization -- including web copy, newsletters, brochures, invitations, appeal letters, grants, and social media.
I have been sharpening my writing and editing skills for over a decade as a freelance arts and entertainment writer, an editor of college publications, an academic writer, and a marketer of my part-time craft business, disCARDS.
The common thread that connects all my work is an emphasis on relationships. Fundraising and communications build relationships between and among organizations and donors and media outlets. Crafting is another relationship-building vehicle, connecting likeminded individuals.
I look forward to the opportunity to build even more networks through Elance, learning about diverse fields while sharing my expertise.
I specialize in writing that is clever and concise. I get to the point -- but I'm not afraid to have fun getting there. My editing and proofreading skills have helped non-profit organizations communicate their often complex missions with clarity and efficiency, resulting in increased funding and recognizable branding.
My writing has been published in PIttsburgh City Paper and one of my academic essays appeared in an anthology about youth subcultures in 2006. Though I am open to writing about a wide variety of topics, I am particularly interested in writing about subcultures (like the "indie craft" movement and the resurgence of roller derby); the arts; and writing that helps promote the missions of non-profit organizations.
My keen eye for detail and love of language give me an edge. With the appropriate level of guidance and instruction from a client, I will turn around projects quickly and efficiently. I enjoy opening a dialogue with the client, offering feedback and seeking solutions that maintain voice and brand identity while tightening up the overall message.
In addition to writing, editing, and proofreading, I am skilled at promoting organizations and products through blogging and other social media. As a crafter, I've been blogging and using social media as a marketing tool to publicize my own small business, developing my brand identity from scratch and viewing this creation process as an extension of my craft.
I love the creative side of writing and look forward to shaping words in a way that works for you!
