The short of it:
I'm a writer, a reader, an educator, an editor, an office specialist, and a woman who wears many hats (metaphorically. In actuality I only have like 2 hats, and I don't wear them very often).

The long of it:
I am in the process of transitioning from poverty-stricken graduate student to decentlyiemployed professional.

Currently I'm polishing up my PhD dissertation in linguistics. The topic? Thanks very much for asking! My dissertation examines the morphosyntax (i.e., grammar) of fear expressions in Indo-European languages (which includes English). Interestingly enough, the grammar in fear constructions in certain languages mirrors real-life fear behavior. When you are afraid of something, you move away from it. In the grammar of fear constructions, some languages use similar distance-marking techniques as well, meaning the grammar itself suggests movement away from the thing that is scary. Interesting, isn't it?

I am also working for a short spell at an exam prep company. I am writing educational content for their products, as well as doing some editing. The position is heavy research in very particular content, and requires an excellent eye for detail. Luckily I have two.

I have several years of experience in editing faculty and student papers, including published articles, master's theses and dissertations. Several papers have been from non-native English speakers, so I know what to look for if editing for a non-native English writer.
